Nexford University is designed for learners who are balancing study with work, family, and other commitments. The flexible pacing model gives you meaningful control over how and when you engage with your coursework -- within a structured framework that keeps you progressing toward your degree.

What Flexible Pacing Means in Practice
Study on Your Schedule
Each course runs for 51 days (approximately seven weeks) within a two-month term. Within that window, you decide when and where you engage with course materials and complete assignments. You can dedicate more time when your schedule allows and manage your workload around other commitments -- as long as you meet key academic deadlines, including the Module 1 participation requirement by Day 10 and all remaining assignments by Day 51.
Complete Courses Early
If you are able to move through the course material more quickly, you can complete a course within the first month of your term. Finishing early means you can begin your next course on the 1st of the following month, effectively accelerating your progress through the program.
A Two-Week Extension When You Need It
If you need additional time to complete a course, you may request a two-week extension, provided you meet the eligibility criteria. Note that learners with an active extension cannot enroll in new courses until a final grade has been issued.
Adjust Your Course Load
Once you have met the initial course, academic standing, and financial requirements for your program, you may be eligible to take more than one course per term. If you need to reduce your course load temporarily, your Success Advisor can help you evaluate your options. Contact success@nexford.edu to discuss any changes to your enrollment.
Course Previewing
After completing a course and receiving your final grade, you will typically gain preview access to your next scheduled course before the official start date. This gives you the opportunity to review upcoming materials and prepare before Day 1 of the new term.
The Structure Behind the Flexibility
Flexible pacing works because it operates within a clear framework. A few key things to keep in mind:
- All courses start on the 1st of the month
- The Add/Drop period runs through Day 5 of each term
- Academic participation must be demonstrated by Day 10 through submission of the Module 1 assignment
- Courses run for 51 days from the official start date
- Your next course will not begin until the 1st of the following month, regardless of when you finish
