Declaring Your Program Specialization: Timing and Guidance

Modified on Tue, 23 Jun at 5:54 PM

Some Nexford programs offer specialization options that allow you to tailor your degree toward specific career goals. This article explains when and how to declare your specialization, and how your Success Advisor supports you through that decision.

The Learning Path Verification Session

About one month after you begin your studies, your Success Advisor will reach out to schedule a Learning Path Verification Session. This is your first structured opportunity to discuss your specialization options.

By the one-month mark, you will typically have had enough time to understand how your program is structured, settle into online learning, and begin forming clearer academic and career goals -- all of which make for a more productive specialization conversation.

During the session, your Success Advisor will:

  • Walk you through the specialization options available in your program
  • Help you evaluate each option against your goals and motivations
  • Support you in making an informed decision that aligns with your career direction

You Don't Have to Decide Right Away

If you are not ready to declare your specialization after the initial session, that is completely fine. Specialization decisions should be made when you feel confident and well-informed, not on a fixed deadline.

You can schedule a follow-up advising session at any time to continue the conversation as your goals evolve.
