If you are unable to complete your course by Day 51 due to extenuating circumstances, you may be eligible to request a course extension of up to 14 additional days.
Note: This article reflects the policies in the current catalog. If you are enrolled under a previous catalog version, extension eligibility criteria may differ. Please refer to your applicable catalog or contact your Success Advisor for clarification.
Eligibility Requirements
Course extensions are available to degree program learners only. To be eligible, you must meet all of the following at the time of your request:
- You have completed at least the first three modules of the course
- You are currently passing the course
- You are submitting your request within the Module 5 window (Days 32--38)
- You can provide documentation of extenuating circumstances
Accepted documentation includes:
- Medical certificate of hospitalization or a doctor's note
- Death of an immediate family member
- Other extreme, documented circumstances
Work-related and travel reasons do not qualify.
All extension requests are subject to review and approval by the academic department.
Important: Additional Tuition May Apply
If your approved extension results in course activity continuing beyond the end of the standard two-month term, additional tuition will be charged from Day 1 of the third month -- regardless of when within that extended period you complete the course.
How to Submit a Request
Submit your extension request, along with supporting documentation, through the Academic Request Form.
Please note that you will not be eligible to enroll in additional courses until your extended course is fully completed and graded.
If You Don't Qualify for an Extension
If your situation does not meet the extension criteria, there are other options worth discussing with your Success Advisor -- including a course withdrawal or a Leave of Absence, depending on your circumstances.
