What is a leave of absence?

Modified on Wed, 18 Jan, 2023 at 12:45 PM

At NXU, we understand that some situations can require you to pause even some of the most important things in your life, such as learning.

A leave of absence (LOA) allows you to take a temporary pause between terms. When scheduled, they start on the 1st of the month after your current course is completed. Ahead of the scheduled Leave of Absence, you may also need to withdraw from your current course(s) if faced with urgent unexpected circumstances.

Taking an LOA is not the right option if you have simply missed a deadline, you aren't performing well, or you just feel a bit overwhelmed. In this situation, you should work with your professors and success advisors to work on a learning plan.

So, before you consider pausing your studies, think of all the support available to help you obtain what you came to Nexford for. In general, LOAs are granted if you experience,

  1. A serious medical condition
  2. An extreme family obligation
  3. An extreme employment obligation

During a leave of absence (LOA), your access to NXU's learning platform will be limited and your tuition clock will freeze. When you return, you will get support from the Learner Success Team to pick up where you left off in your program.

Note: Learners in single courses or in certificate programs are not eligible for taking an LOA.

You can find always more information about the NXU LOA policy in our University Catalog
