What is a course withdrawal?

Modified on Wed, 8 Nov, 2023 at 1:09 PM

There are two types of withdrawals from courses and programs at NXU: learner-initiated withdrawals and university-initiated withdrawals.

Learner-initiated withdrawals

If you choose to drop a course within the first five days of a term, Days 1-5, this will not show up on your permanent record. If you withdraw from a course after Day 5, this will be reflected on your record indicated by a "W" on your transcript. The "W" has no impact on your GPA (Grade Point Average) but will impact your course completion pace. This is monitored as part of the academic requirements to stay enrolled at Nexford University, so you should think carefully before withdrawing from a course.

Withdrawing from the course means that you will be unenrolled from the course but will continue to have access to NXU's learning platform, and your tuition clock will continue to run. During this time, you can use NXU's resources such as the LIRN Library and the Writing Lab.

To initiate a course withdrawal, simply contact the Learner Success Team (success@nexford.org).

University-initiated withdrawals

If the university initiates your withdrawal from a course, this is considered an Administrative Course Withdrawal. This could occur if deemed necessary by university administrators on account of:

  • Failing to meet minimum academic standards
  • Failing to meet NXU's participation requirements
  • Failing to make required tuition payments

An administratively withdrawn course is recorded as a W on the transcript.
