If you are unable to submit an assignment by the deadline, here is what you need to know about late submissions and how to request an extension.
Late Submission Policy
All assignments -- except Module 1 -- remain open for up to five days after the due date. Submissions received after the deadline but within this five-day window will be graded as normal, with a grade reduction applied based on how late the submission is.
All assignment deadlines are set at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET).
| Days Late | Grade Reduction |
|---|---|
| Up to 1 day (within 24 hours) | 5% |
| Up to 2 days | 10% |
| Up to 3 days | 15% |
| Up to 4 days | 20% |
| Up to 5 days | 25% |
| More than 5 days | Assignment closed; grade of 0 |
Example: If your deadline is January 1 at 11:59 PM ET and you submit on January 2 before 11:59 PM ET, a 5% reduction will be applied to your final grade.
Important: The late submission policy does not apply to Module 1 assignments. Module 1 must be submitted by Day 10 with no exceptions.
Requesting an Extension
If you have extenuating circumstances that prevented you from submitting on time, you may request an assignment extension. Your request must be submitted within 24 hours of the original due date and must include documentation of the extenuating circumstances.
To submit a request, use the Academic Request Form and select Request an Assignment Extension as the request type.
Extensions are not guaranteed and are granted at the discretion of the academic department based on the circumstances provided.
