Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Supported Credit Types & How to Apply
At NXU, we understand that learning happens everywhere – not just in a traditional classroom. We value your diverse experiences and are committed to helping you get the recognition you deserve for your prior knowledge and skills. Our updated process makes it easier than ever to apply for credit for learning you've gained outside of a formal NXU course.
What Types of Prior Learning Do We Support?
We've significantly expanded the types of prior learning for which you can receive credit. This means we can now assess and potentially award credit for:
Professional Credentials:
Do you hold industry certifications, licenses, or professional designations? Many professional credentials demonstrate a mastery of skills that could translate into academic credit.
Examples: PMP certification, AWS certifications, Registered Nurse (RN) license, CPA license, Google Professional Certificates, etc.
Standardized Exams:
Excellent scores on recognized standardized exams can often fulfill course requirements.
Examples: Advanced Placement (AP) exams, International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST).
Military Credit:
Your military training and experience can be incredibly valuable. We evaluate official military transcripts (like the Joint Services Transcript - JST) to award credit for relevant coursework and experiences.
Other Prior Learning:
Have you gained significant knowledge through extensive work experience, non-credit workshops, or other unique educational experiences? Our "Other" category allows our Admissions team to review these unique cases individually. Just provide detailed documentation, and we'll assess its applicability.
How to Indicate Your Interest in Prior Learning Credit (It's Easier Than Ever!)
