Can I Take a Leave of Absence While My Program is Suspended?

Modified on Tue, 6 May at 9:06 PM

At Nexford University, if your program enrollment is currently on Program Suspension, you are not eligible to apply for or take a Leave of Absence (LoA).  The suspension must first be resolved, and you must be reinstated to an active, good standing status before a Leave of Absence request can be considered.

Why This Policy is in Place

A Leave of Absence is designed for learners who are otherwise meeting all university requirements (i.e., are in "good standing") but need to temporarily pause their active studies. Ensuring that any outstanding financial or administrative issues causing a suspension are resolved first allows for:

  • A clear record when pausing your studies.
  • A more streamlined and straightforward review and approval process for your Leave of Absence request.

Steps to Take if You Are Suspended and Need a Break

  1. Identify and Resolve the Reason for Suspension: You must first address the specific issue(s) that led to your program suspension. Common examples include:

    • Financial Suspension: If your suspension is due to overdue tuition, you need to settle this outstanding payment. You can check your balance and make payments via your myNXU Wallet: https://mynxu.nexford.edu/wallet.

    • Administrative Suspension (e.g., Outstanding Documents): If your suspension is due to missing admission documents (often from an "Accepted Evaluation Pending" status), you must submit all required documentation for verification.

  2. Confirm Reinstatement to Active Status: Once you have resolved the issue, work with the relevant Nexford team (e.g., Billings, Admissions, or Learner Success) to confirm that your suspension has been lifted and your enrollment status is active and in good standing.

  3. Request a Leave of Absence (If Still Needed): After your suspension is resolved and you are an active learner in good standing, if you still require an extended break from your studies, you can then formally request a Leave of Absence by contacting your Success Advisor.
