AI use in Nexford courses is not only encouraged, it is required. The strategic and transparent use of AI is an expected skill. Your course rubrics will show you how AI use is evaluated. If you believe you can achieve a better result without AI, you must formally disclose this decision and provide a strong rationale in the AI Disclosure Form which should be attached with all assignment submissions.
Your instructor will evaluate not just the final output of your work, but also how you used AI and applied critical thinking. We aim for full transparency through the course rubric. Key evaluation elements include:
- Are you using AI in appropriate ways to support your work?
- Are you critically evaluating and improving AI-generated outputs?
- Are you demonstrating where human insight provides the most value?
In all assignment rubrics, the assignment outcomes will account for 55% of the total points for the assignment. The remaining 45% of the assignment points are for assessment of AI usage, specifically:
- Effective & Proficient Use of AI (25% of Total Score)
This criterion evaluates your thoughtful and effective integration of AI where it has been used or proposed, along with your adherence to AI usage guidelines. The documentation of AI usage and the justification for your choices are paramount. - Synthesis & Contextualization (20% of Total Score)
This criterion evaluates your ability to synthesize AI-generated content with original thought, external sources, and contextual knowledge to create a meaningful, distinctive contribution that goes beyond what AI alone could produce.
You will also be required to formally disclose your AI use in your assignments via the AI Disclosure Form (Attached to this article).
