Scheduling 1:1 Meetings with Your Professor

Modified on Tue, 6 May at 7:40 PM

Connecting directly with your professor for a one-on-one (1:1) meeting can be highly beneficial for discussing specific course content, seeking clarification on assignments, or going over feedback in more detail. Nexford University provides a couple of ways to arrange these valuable sessions.

Method 1: Using Your Professor's "Bookings Page"

Many professors utilize an online scheduling tool, often referred to as their "Bookings page." This page will display their available appointment slots, allowing you to choose a time that suits you.

  • How to Find the Bookings Page Link:
    1. Check Course Announcements: Professors often share their Bookings page link in an Announcement at the beginning of your course.
    2. Visit Your Professor's Canvas Profile:You can typically find this link at any time during your course by:
      • Navigating to your specific course in Canvas.
      • Clicking on the "People" tab in the course navigation menu.
      • Selecting your professor's name from the list to open their profile page.
      • Looking for a link labeled "Bookings," "Schedule a Meeting," or similar on their profile.
  • Booking Your Slot: Once you access their Bookings page, select an available date and time and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your 1:1 appointment.

Method 2: Contacting Your Professor via Canvas Inbox

If you cannot easily find a Bookings page, or if the available slots don't work for your schedule, you can also reach out to your professor directly:

  • Send a clear and professional message using the Canvas Inbox.
  • In your message, state that you would like to request a 1:1 meeting. It's helpful to briefly mention the topic you wish to discuss and suggest a few dates or general times you are available, or ask for their availability.

Tips for a Productive 1:1 Meeting with Your Professor

  • Prepare specific questions or topics you want to cover beforehand.
  • Have any relevant course materials, assignments, or feedback ready to refer to during the session.

Please Note: One-on-one meetings with your professor are best utilized for discussions directly related to course content, assignments, and specific academic feedback within that course.
