The process and outcome of leaving a course depend on when you make the request. Here is what you need to know.
Note: This article reflects the policies in the current catalog. If you are enrolled under a previous catalog version, withdrawal deadlines may differ. Please refer to your applicable catalog or contact your Success Advisor for clarification.
Days 1-5: Drop Period
The first five days of each course are the drop period. If you drop a course during this window:
- The course will not appear on your transcript
- You will receive a full tuition refund
- The course will not count toward your attempted credits for SAP purposes
To drop a course, email success@nexford.edu or submit an Academic Request before the end of Day 5.
Days 6-35: Course Withdrawal
After Day 5, withdrawing from a course results in a grade of W on your transcript. Before submitting a withdrawal request, speak with your Success Advisor -- there may be other options worth exploring first.
Key things to understand before withdrawing:
- A W does not affect your GPA
- The course counts as an attempted credit for SAP purposes, which affects your course completion pace
- Your completion pace must meet the minimum threshold for your program level and credits attempted -- withdrawing may put you at risk of an Academic Warning if your pace falls below that threshold
If you have considered your options and still need to withdraw, submit an Academic Request.
Day 36 Onwards
Course withdrawals are not permitted from Day 36 onwards. If you stop submitting work at this stage, you will receive a grade based on whatever you have submitted. A grade of F will be recorded on your transcript if you do not complete the course.
If you are in a difficult situation and cannot continue, contact your Success Advisor as soon as possible to discuss your options.
